Safety first, always
Licensed, staffed to ratio, and built to be safe
A licence is the floor we build on. It lets a Doon family choose nature programming without giving up any of the oversight a licensed centre guarantees. Here is exactly what that means.
Licensed under Ontario's CCEYA
We hold a licence under the Child Care and Early Years Act, the law that governs licensed child care in Ontario. A licence is not a formality. It sets the ratios, the group sizes, the staff qualifications, the health and safety requirements, and the inspections that protect your child every day.
Our licence number and current inspection information are available on request, and we will show them to you on a tour. Licence #: [Licence #].
Ontario ratios and group sizes
These are set by the Act. They are the same at every licensed centre, and they do not change because we spend more time outdoors.
| Room | Ages | Ratio | Group size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infant | under 18 months | 1:3 | max 10 |
| Toddler | 18 to 30 months | 1:5 | max 15 |
| Preschool | 2.5 to 4 years | 1:8 | max 24 |
| Kindergarten | 44 months to 7 years | 1:13 | max 26 |
| School age | 68 months to 12 years | 1:15 | max 30 |
The everyday safety basics
Controlled access
We manage who comes in and who a child leaves with. Only authorized adults can pick up, and arrivals and departures are tracked.
Clear illness rules
We follow public health guidance on when a child stays home and when they can return, so a room full of young children stays as healthy as possible.
Allergy management
Allergies are managed carefully at the room level. Tell us at enrolment so we can plan for your child specifically.
Trained educators
Our RECEs maintain first aid and CPR and the training a licence requires. Outdoor activity is supervised within the centre's safety rules.
Safety questions
Are you a licensed daycare?
Yes. We are licensed under Ontario's Child Care and Early Years Act, which sets ratios, health and safety requirements, staff qualifications, and regular inspections.
What are the ratios in each room?
Ontario sets them: one educator for every three infants, one for every five toddlers, one for every eight preschoolers, and the kindergarten and school-age ratios for older children. We staff to ratio before children arrive.
What is your illness policy?
We follow illness and exclusion guidance from Region of Waterloo Public Health. In short, a child stays home with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or symptoms they cannot manage in a group. See our illness policy guide for details.
How do you keep the centre secure?
Access is controlled, arrivals and departures are managed, and we only release a child to authorized adults. We walk every family through our security on a tour.
Are you inspected?
Yes. Licensed centres are inspected by the Ministry of Education. We are happy to share our licence and inspection information with families.
