Under 18 months
Infant Care in Doon
One educator for every three babies, in a room built for sleep, feeding, and slow first discoveries. We keep the day close to your home rhythm.
Our infant room runs at the ratio Ontario sets for infants under 18 months: one educator for every three children, in a group of no more than ten. That ratio is not a marketing number. It is how many babies one person can actually hold, feed, change, and know well across a day.
We follow your child's schedule, not a room schedule. If your six-month-old naps at 9am and again after lunch, that is what we do. We write down every feed, sleep, and diaper change so you get a real account at pickup, not a guess.
What this program is, in practice
A 1:3 ratio, every day
The Act requires one educator for every three infants. We do not run thin and make it up later. The room is staffed to ratio before the first family arrives.
Your schedule, written down
Feeds, sleeps, and diaper changes are logged through the day so you get a clear picture at pickup, not a shrug.
Outdoor air daily
Even infants get fresh air. In good weather they nap and observe outdoors in carriers and covered strollers, dressed for the day.
The same faces
Our educators stay for years. The person who learns your baby's cues in the fall is the same person holding them in spring.
A day in the infant room
- 7amArrival and quiet welcome. Bottles and morning naps follow each baby's own clock.
- Floor time and tummy time on the mat, with an educator at eye level.
- First outdoor air of the day in the covered stroller or carrier, weather permitting.
- Lunch, then the long midday nap.
- Songs, board books, and one-on-one play as babies wake.
- 6pmPickup, with a written log of the day's feeds, sleeps, and moments.
A rhythm, not a stopwatch. The room flexes to the children in it on any given day.
What to pack

- Formula or stored breast milk for the day
- Two full changes of clothes

- Outdoor layers for the season
Questions parents ask
What is the infant ratio at Doon Forest?
One educator for every three infants, in a group of no more than ten. This is the ratio Ontario's Child Care and Early Years Act sets for children under 18 months.
Will you follow my baby's sleep and feeding schedule?
Yes. Infants follow their own rhythm, not a room timetable. Tell us your child's pattern and we keep to it, adjusting as your baby grows.
Do infants go outside?
Yes, weather permitting and dressed for the day. Outdoor air is part of every day, including for the youngest children, in carriers and covered strollers.
How will I know how my baby's day went?
We log every feed, sleep, and diaper change. At pickup you get a written account of the day, and our educators will talk you through anything worth knowing.
When can my baby move up to the toddler room?
Around 18 months, when your child is ready and a toddler spot is available. We plan the move with you so it is gradual, not abrupt.
Is infant care covered by CWELCC?
Yes. Infant care is an under-six room, so the CWELCC reduction applies. See the Tuition and CWELCC page for the current daily rate.
