A day with us

What a day actually looks like

Not a brochure version. This is the real rhythm of a day at Doon Forest, from the unhurried morning to the tired, grubby, happy walk to the car at pickup.

Autumn leaves on the ground, the kind children gather on the trail
  1. 7am

    Doors open

Children arrive on their own clock. Early birds have breakfast and ease into quiet play while the rooms fill. No rush, no scramble.

  2. 9am

    Morning gathering

Each room comes together for songs, names, the weather, and a look at what the day holds. It is short, warm, and predictable, which is exactly what young children want.

  3. 9:30am

    The long outdoor block

The heart of the morning. Children head outside to build, dig, run, climb, and look closely at the season, weather permitting in proper gear. This is where the real learning happens.

  4. 11:30am

    Lunch, family-style

We eat together. Older children serve themselves, which builds independence and turns lunch into part of the program rather than a pit stop.

  5. 12:30pm

    Rest and quiet

A nap for the children who sleep, and a calm rest with books and soft activities for those who no longer do. Everyone gets a genuine pause.

  6. 2:30pm

    Small-group learning

Afternoons make room for early literacy, numbers, fine-motor work, and projects, in small groups so each child is genuinely seen.

  7. 3:30pm

    Back outside

A second outdoor stretch when weather allows. More play, more movement, more fresh air before the day winds down.

  8. 6pm

    Pickup

Children head home tired in the best way. Educators share how the day went, because you should know more than just that it happened.

A rhythm, not a stopwatch. Times shift with the children, the season, and the weather on any given day.
